The Diva Project
“Uplifting the community with Music”
Hip Hop artist Keldamuzik aka “Diva”, Bay Area’s most popular female rapper, has created a movement for young girls entitled, “The Diva Project”. The movement is for young women and ladies who suffer from self-esteem issues, lack of confidence due to disturbing childhood and other case scenarios. Kelda decided to take it upon herself to create The Diva Project to uplift not only young girls but the community through music and inspiring others to become aware of their personal issues and developing ones. With "The Diva Project, Keldamuzik conducts workshops and live performances before an audience, which consist of arts, film, video producing and a special live performance by the Diva herself.
In today’s society, many girls follow the wrong path of disturbing behavior. Some end up in jail, pregnant at an early age, victim of domestic violence or better yet, dead. As Keldamuzik upheld her image as a successful recording artist and community supporter; she has been known as “Diva”. Not too many women in today’s world can really make such a statement by the age of 25 they’ve had accomplishments through obtaining their own reality TV show, releasing two albums in stores and shot 4 music videos independently on their own without any financial support.
Growing up in the Bay Area, Kelda found it hard to come forward to her mother about her personal situations. Whether it is about her peers, hygiene, grades, or other personal secrets; Kelda always kept them to herself. Her mother existed physically, and raised Kelda, however; due to her own upbringing in a low income neighborhood, they weren’t able to relate on certain topics. Kelda opened up about her upbringing; “My mom would always ask about me first about my bra size, and make fun of me if I was talking to a boy. I never understood why she felt that way, but it was because the environment she was raised in. She grew up raising her two younger sisters in the projects of Southside Chicago, therefore, she treated my brother and I as if we were her siblings and not her children. It made it very hard for me to come forward and talk to her about my personal feelings in a daughter to mother conversation, because she would make a joke out of it or tell the whole family. It was like she was really my older sister and not my mother. This is my life, having a sister as a mother and not someone who wants to understand you and your needs as a 12 year old girl. Over the years, my mother and I have grown to learn more about each other and to understand each other. Today we are able to be open with each other and put out feelings out there when necessary."
The Diva Project movement has spread to inspire young women to gain confidence and overcome self-esteem issues, as Kelda did for herself. It’s designed to appear as a program in most cases that will consists of powerful and uplifting performances by Diva and interaction with young women. Self-esteem and confidence is what many women lack when it comes to speaking, achieving goals and networking in today’s society. While performing positive songs to her audience, such as “Get Up N Get It” “Girlfriend” and “Thank You”; Diva wants young women to leave the workshop with aspirations, confidence and an uplifted spirit.
